Buenos días todos!!! Como estan?!
I finished the Book of Mormon yesterday! Read it from cover to cover in my first two transfers! I've read the Book of Mormon many times in my life, but this time was just truly amazing. We are just so spoiled rotten to live in this dispensation with this book. If you haven't read it in a while, I invite you to pick it up and finish it before December! That's my challenge! You can do it!
I also finished training! And guess what... we got transfer news... guess who's a trainer... me! I don't know who thought that was a good idea but I am really very excited! Tomorrow I'll meet up with the amazing Hermana Sherrod and I'll finish her training in a NEW ZONE! Not just a new to me zone, a new zone to our mission! I'm so excited!
Once upon a time, 9 weeks ago, I got to this area and walked all the way uptown as we could go to go visit a member named Claudia. Claudia lives on a busy street corner. While knocking on her door, Hermana LeSueur and I met a candy man named Jeffery. He asked us about the United States, our church, etc. He thought we were cool but REALLY did not want to hear a message from us or read the Book of Mormon. He loves Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He loves the Bible. I believe the church that he attends doesn't encourage asking questions... I've seen him and talked to him pretty much every time I've knocked Claudia's door. This past Tuesday we ran into him again, at Claudia's door and he met Hermana Heimdal for the first time. We read some verses from the Introduction to the Book of Mormon with him and he was... more interested. He walked away for a moment. We knocked Claudia's door. He came back with lil pamphlets from his church with Christ's words saying "My gospel is the only true Gospel" from the Bible. We told him we love that scripture and we believe in the same Gospel. We really tried to give him a Book of Mormon but he "didn't want to corrupt his soul with false doctrine in case it wasn't the word of God" I understand. It's a great thing that it is the word of God. 👍💪 We convinced him to let us give him an ENGLISH Book of Mormon in a couple days and he loved that idea. 👍
Now Betty. Betty is a sweet old lady that's great friends with our pensionista. Our Gaby set up a day for her to go visit her! (little did she know we were coming too) She loved it! We visited with her, we gave her a Book of Mormon, I got to sit on the floor in front of her chair with her to share scriptures and it was just such a joyful experience. Then we needed to quickly leave because WE NEEDED TO GO UPTOWN TO JEFFERY AND GIVE HIM A BOOK OF MORMON!!! Turns out Gaby stayed with Betty for 5 more hours talking about scripture. BLESSING!
We scurried uptown real fast cuz we were running late! When we got there Jeffery was standing on his corner and said "toooo late" my comp was very sad. I knew this man was getting this Book in both languages today. A candy child was standing with him, this kiddo really did want to see what was in this book. We showed him the pictures in the front of it, especially Christ in the Americas. The kiddo promptly took the book out of our hands and walked down the street. Awesome. Jeffery was watching anf listening the whole time. Miracle.
We shared with him Alma 32:21-22. It hit him in his soul. He was close to tears. I told him the best way to read the Book of Mormon in a different language is by having it open to you native language too. He memorized where Alma 32 was, he wanted the Book in both languages now.
He said he gets wakes up every night in the middle of the night and prays that apostles like the apostles in Acts would return to the earth and preach like they did in the New Testament. We got to tell him that we have a living Prophet who has living apostles who are set apart by the same priesthood that set apart Peter, and James, and John.
He's very excited to learn more. Everyone pray for Betty and Jeffery.
I can't believe how blessed we are. We have the Book of Mormon. We have the WHOLE STORY! We have the restored Gospel, we have the Priesthood. We have a PROPHET OF GOD! We have APOSTLES who are all really freaking fantastic! This Gospel is TRUE! If you aren't sure about that, I invite you to really try to find out. I promise you will feel Heavenly Father's love for you and PURE JOY along the way.
